Womens society mask, “sowei”, a female ancestral spirit, with idealized features including high forehead, elaborate coiffure with semicircular ridges in v-form at top, layered neck rings, and small pierced ears. Polished black patina with some encrusted deposits in hair. Part of rim lost along back, repair along side, surface wear. Custom base.
